Smart Work Zone
The Smart Work Zone system consists on three core components: Base Station, Smart Cones, Smart Helmets and Vests. The C-V2X Base Station is the central core of the Smart Work Zone system, functioning as the primary communication and edge computing hub. It consolidates the GPS positions of individual workers from their Smart Vests and Helmets and uses a 4G/LTE link to communicate this data to a cloud server. The base station also broadcasts critical work zone information, such as traveler information messages (TIMs) and personal safety messages (PSMs), to approaching connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) using C-V2X technology. Additionally, it provides real-time kinematic (RTK) GPS corrections to the other devices in the system, which allows them to achieve centimeter-level position accuracy.
Smart Vest
The Smart Vest is a wearable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) device for roadway workers that accurately localizes and monitors their position. It is designed to provide multi-modal alerts using auditory, visual, and tactile feedback to notify the worker if they are about to leave a geo-fenced safe area or if a potential collision threat is detected. The vest, which is battery-powered for up to 22 hours, communicates its location back to the Base Station
Smart Helmet
The Smart Helmet is a wearable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) device for roadway workers that can be installed on the worker’s hat. It accurately localizes and monitors their position. It is designed to provide multi-modal alerts using auditory, visual, and tactile feedback—to notify the worker if they are about to leave a geo-fenced safe area or if a potential collision threat is detected. The Smart Helmet device is battery-powered for up to 22 hours, and communicates its location back to the Base Station
